In Nomen Hereditatis
In 2019, Pelikan and the Romanian Royal House co-wrote a unique chapter in the history of fine writing, launching the first royal edition dedicated to King Michael I of Romania. This was a world premiere, a collaboration that blended the tradition of German craftsmanship with the symbols of a respected monarchy.
Today, the story continues. In honor of Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, Pelikan launches a new collector’s fountain pen, a creation that speaks of continuity, balance, and hope.
Craftsmanship. Symbol. Detail.
Viewed closely, the Her Majesty Margareta fountain pen reveals an entire story in every detail. Its barrel, made from precious resin and polished with diamond dust, possesses a brilliance that intensifies with use, transforming every moment of writing into a refined experience. At the center of the barrel, Her Majesty’s seal is precisely inlaid and reproduced in 24K gold, confirming the official character of this edition and adding a discreet note of nobility.
The gold-plated ring is engraved with the Crown's motto—"Nihil Sine Deo" (Nothing Without God)—a message of faith and continuity, visible every time the pen is held. Her Majesty's signature, applied with gold powder, adds a personal and emotional dimension, turning each piece into a unique item.
The nib is made of solid 14K gold and manually engraved by Pelikan masters, a process that combines artisanal mastery with absolute precision. Rhodium plating provides an elegant contrast, and the iridium tip is carefully polished and individually calibrated to ensure perfectly balanced writing.
The nib is more than a functional component; it is the meeting point between thought and paper. Every letter traced with this pen gains fluidity and expressiveness, and the sensation of writing becomes a natural, almost ceremonial gesture.
In 1929, Pelikan permanently changed the world of writing instruments by introducing the differential piston mechanism—a patented innovation that became a benchmark for the entire industry. The same mechanism, preserved almost unchanged since then, is also found in this fountain pen, serving as a technical and symbolic signature of the brand.
Refilling the pen becomes a ritualistic gesture: the fine turning of the piston, the slow movement of the ink gathering in the reservoir, the translucent window that reveals the exact level. Everything conveys mechanical precision and respect for craftsmanship.
For collectors and enthusiasts, this mechanism guarantees an authentic experience. It is valued for its reliability, for the way it preserves tradition, and for the unique sensation it offers with every refill.
700 Signatures. One Mission.
There are objects that transcend their practical status and become collector's pieces, bearers of meaning. Her Majesty Margareta's fountain pen is one of them. Only 700 numbered copies have been created, each with its own identity, each prepared to tell a personal story.
Every detail, from the signature applied with gold powder to the precisely engraved number, makes each fountain pen an unrepeatable piece. Owning it means not only writing with an exceptional instrument but also preserving a fragment of contemporary history.
The 700 fountain pens collectively form a rare collection, destined to last. It is a project that brings together writing enthusiasts, collectors, and all those who value objects created with care, tradition, and respect for craftsmanship.
About Pelikan
On April 28, 2025, Pelikan celebrated 187 years of existence. For many generations, the brand has been associated with handwriting and even with the idea of the fountain pen itself. In 1929, Pelikan launched the fountain pen featuring the differential piston filling mechanism. This innovation revolutionized fountain pens and positively influenced the technique of calligraphic writing, being subsequently adopted by the entire industry and used, to this day, in the manufacturing of fountain pens.
Today, Pelikan continues to create collector's writing instruments, as well as educational and artistic products—from premium inks and watercolors to creative items for school or office. Production takes place in Germany, maintaining a connection to its origins, and each product reflects both artisanal tradition and a modern vision: writing as a form of identity, culture, and personal refinement.
